On October 1, full results from SYNCHRONIZE-2, a phase 3 trial of survodutide, were published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Survodutide is an investigational peptide that acts on GLP-1 and glucagon receptors. In 752 adults with type 2 diabetes and a BMI of 27 or higher, average weight change at 76 weeks was −8.2% and −9.8% on the two doses vs −3.9% on placebo, and HbA1c fell 0.9 and 0.8 points vs 0.2 on placebo. Digestive side effects were common. The sponsor-funded trial compared survodutide with placebo, not an approved drug, so it does not establish how survodutide compares with existing treatments. Inside: how it works, why you may see "up to 13.1%," and the open questions. Paper: NEJM, via PubMed.
